This moose was fitted with a GPS Radio Collar in Northen Ontario.  The GPS collars give accurate locational data, and can be programmed to collect data over 24 hours throughout the year.   The collars store data and the data can be downloaded onto a laptop computer via a modem connection.  This particular study was undertaken to learn the effects of different types of logging on moose condition, home range and habitat.

This is a Columbian Ground Squirrel.  She is just about ready for her long winter's nap, as you can tell by the size of her.  This study examined the reproductive succession, activities, and home range of these female ground squirrels.

Conventional radio telemetry is a useful monitoring tool that complements ground tracking and surveys, whether you are tracking moose, ground squirrels, wild turkey, or trout.  In this picture, Elise is locating radio-collared wolves in Alberta.
